1.5 cùn lateral to the spine
    Element
    Metal
    Front-Mù pair
    LU-1 Zhōng Fǔ

    Location

1.5 cùn lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of T3, between the scapula and spine.

    Actions

    • Tonifies Lung Qi and Yin
    • Regulates descending of Lung Qi
    • Releases the exterior and strengthens Wèi Qi
    • Stops chronic cough and wheeze

    Indications

Cough, asthma, chronic Lung Qi deficiency, spontaneous sweating, tuberculosis.

Tenderness here almost always accompanies chronic respiratory patterns and Wèi Qi deficiency.

    Needling technique

Oblique insertion toward the spine, 0.5–0.8 cùn. Never perpendicular over the intercostal space.

    Moxibustion

Direct rice-grain moxa or indirect stick moxa is excellent for chronic Lung Qi/Yang deficiency, wheeze and cold-type cough.

    Cautions

Deep perpendicular needling risks pneumothorax. Always angle toward the spine.
