    Neck pain (adjunctive care)

Also known as: neck pain, cervical pain, stiff neck, wry neck, torticollis, cervicalgia, tech neck

Most neck pain is mechanical and settles with movement, exercise and posture variety; persistent cases benefit from active rehabilitation. Acupuncture has evidence as an adjunct for chronic neck pain, and Chinese medicine differentiates channel, Cold-Damp and deficiency patterns to guide treatment.

    Lifestyle & Diet

    • •Keep moving — collar use and rest prolong recovery in mechanical neck pain.
    • •Vary posture; no single 'perfect posture' exists, but long static holds are the enemy.
    • •Raise the screen to eye level and take regular movement breaks.
    • •Graded neck and shoulder strengthening has the strongest evidence for persistent pain.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    See sources
    • •Cord compression signs, trauma and meningitis red flags must be excluded before pattern treatment.[,]
    • •GB21 requires shallow, oblique needling — deep perpendicular needling risks pneumothorax; contraindicated in pregnancy.[]
    • •High-velocity neck manipulation is outside Chinese medicine practice standards and carries vascular risk — do not perform or refer for it uncritically.[]
