Neck pain is one of the most commonly presented complaints in acupuncture clinics, and channel-based point selection with Ā Shì needling of taut bands is the standard clinical approach. Which acupuncture points are used for a stiff neck?+
For an acute stiff neck on waking, Luò Zhěn (EX-UE 8) and SI 3 Hòu Xī are needled with active neck rotation, followed by local GB 20, GB 21 and BL 10. Chronic cases add Huá Tuó Jiā Jǐ points at the involved cervical levels.
How do I tell which channel the neck pain belongs to?+
Pain along the midline follows the Du vessel, either side of the midline the Bladder channel, the lateral neck the Gallbladder channel, and the scapular border the Small Intestine channel. Ask the patient to trace the pain rather than relying on the diagnosis label.
