Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need both public liability and professional indemnity insurance?
Most practitioners need both. Public liability covers accidents in the clinic space or at a patient's home, while professional indemnity covers complaints about clinical advice and treatment. They protect against different risks.
Is professional indemnity insurance required by AHPRA?
Yes. The Chinese Medicine Board of Australia requires AHPRA-registered Chinese medicine practitioners to hold appropriate professional indemnity insurance as a condition of registration.
Am I covered if I work from home or do mobile visits?
Only if your policy specifically says so. Standard home and contents insurance and car insurance usually exclude business activities. Tell your broker exactly where and how you practise.
What is run-off cover and why does it matter?
Run-off cover protects you against claims that arrive after you stop practising, retire, or sell the clinic. Some claims can surface years after the treatment, so this is worth checking before you let a policy lapse.
